Russia, North Korea Open Road Traffic Over Tumen River Bridge

(MENAFN) Russia and North Korea have inaugurated road traffic across a newly completed bridge over the Tumen River, marking the first direct road connection between the two countries.

Russian Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin, speaking at the opening ceremony via video link, said that the new infrastructure makes direct road movement between Russia and North Korea possible for the first time in history. He noted that major construction stages were completed in less than a year, according to his remarks.

The crossing spans nearly five kilometers in total, including a one-kilometer bridge section. It features two traffic lanes designed to accommodate road transport between the two countries.

On the Russian side, construction reportedly involved around 70 workers and 30 pieces of equipment.

Officials described the project as a significant step in expanding transport connectivity between Russia and North Korea through newly developed infrastructure over the Tumen River.
