US Pushes for Gaza Ceasefire Adherence

(MENAFN) The administration of President Donald Trump is becoming increasingly concerned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu might undermine the ongoing ceasefire agreement with Hamas in Gaza, US media outlets reported on Tuesday.

According to a daily, which cited unnamed White House officials, Vice President JD Vance’s visit to Israel is aimed at exerting pressure on Netanyahu to adhere to the ceasefire.

The visit also seeks to "add an extra symbolic layer to illustrate the administration’s commitment to keeping the deal intact."

On Monday, US Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law, arrived in Israel for discussions with Netanyahu and other key officials about the execution of the ceasefire agreement.

A senior US official informed the US daily that both Witkoff and Kushner believe that the ceasefire deal is "in danger of falling apart."

The primary objective of the envoys' mission in Israel is “to try to keep Netanyahu from resuming an all-out assault against Hamas,” the sources revealed.

The daily reported that the talks between Witkoff and Kushner focused on resolving "some of the trickier areas that were left undefined in their initial deal," including the creation of a stabilization force and the disarmament of Hamas.

On Sunday, Israel conducted a series of airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of at least 44 Palestinians.

Israel claimed these strikes were a response to Hamas attacking its troops in the southern city of Rafah. However, Hamas denied any involvement and reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire.
