Google Plans to Inject USD6.8B into UK AI Economy

(MENAFN) Google revealed on Tuesday its ambitious plan to inject £5 billion (around $6.8 billion) into the UK’s artificial intelligence sector, timed ahead of US President Donald Trump’s official visit to Britain.

The American tech leader stated, "Google is deepening our roots in the UK with the opening of our new data center in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire."

This new facility near London will be designed to support the rising demand for AI-driven services, including Google Cloud offerings.

The £5 billion commitment over the next two years will cover capital investment, research and development, engineering efforts, and support for Google DeepMind — the company’s cutting-edge AI research division focused on breakthroughs in science and healthcare, according to the announcement.

This large-scale investment is projected to generate 8,250 annual jobs across British firms.

Additionally, Google revealed a partnership with Shell, aimed at enhancing grid stability and accelerating the UK’s energy transition.

President Trump is scheduled to arrive in the UK today, with deals totaling more than $10 billion anticipated to be finalized during his visit.
